James J. Piro, CCIM, CIPS, MAI, a long-time member of the Commercial Investment Real Estate Editorial Review Board, CCIM Institute, and the Florida CCIM Chapter, passed away in Sarasota, Fla., on Oct. 9. He was 69 years old.

For more than 40 years, Piro headed up his own firm, James J. Piro, in Sarasota. A highly accomplished commercial real estate professional, he performed multiple services for his clients, including market analysis, site location analysis and consulting, and feasibility studies.

“Jim was always a gentleman and a happy guy,” says James T. Hatin, MAI, owner of James T. Hatin Commercial Appraiser in Sarasota. “He made the world a better place.”

Piro was born Dec. 21, 1947, in Cleveland, Ohio. He grew up in Cleveland and earned a bachelor’s degree in real estate from John Carroll University in University Heights, Ohio.

In 1986, Piro moved with his wife, Linda Piro, and family to Sarasota. He is survived by his wife, Linda; daughter and son-in-law, Alicia Piro and William Bousman; grandchildren, Alexis Anne and William James; brother, Dr. Philip Piro; sister, Marilyn Peterson; and several nieces, nephews, and relatives. A memorial service was held on Friday, Oct. 13 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Sarasota. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to St. Michael.
