Come join us on Cinco de Mayo for a special CCIM Education Opportunity.  Learn how to best Navigate this Season’s Stormy Legislative Seas filled with Rent Control, No Cause Evictions, Corporate Gross Receipts Tax and other income eating Bills that may be entering your Safe Harbor.  The education you will receive is a tale of Legislative Updates that will better arm you for success.

The two hour lunch program will include two hours of Real Estate CE presented by Tom Ped of Williams Kastner and George Dingeldein of Rathbone Barton Olson PC and by Dr. Eric Fruits of Economics International Corp. Dr. Fruits will provide an overview of the Oregon economy, with a focus on the potential consequences of several bills working their way through the legislature. Topics will include the following:

  • "Son of 97” Gross Receipts Tax Proposal
  • Rent Control
  • Affordable Housing.
Eric will also discuss the possibility of a slowdown in Portland area tech growth and the impacts on Commercial Real Estate in the region.

George is a dedicated and experienced real estate professional. His background in real estate development and construction gives him a unique and thorough understanding of the industry, which saves his clients time, money and headache. Dr. Eric Fruits is President and Chief Economist at Economics International Corp. and an adjunct professor of economics at Portland State University. He has produced numerous research studies involving economic analysis, financial modeling, and statistical analysis. As an expert witness, he has provided expert testimony in state court, federal court, and an international court.
He has written peer-reviewed articles on initial public offerings (IPOs), the municipal bond market, and the formation and operation of cartels. His economic analysis has been widely cited and has been published in The Economist, the Wall Street Journal, and USA Today.

Tom Ped is a member in Williams Kastner’s Portland office. His practice specializes in civil litigation matters, including construction, business torts, real estate and insurance coverage matters. Tom regularly assists insurers with coverage analysis and actions for declaratory relief. Tom also represents owners, general contractors, subcontractors and suppliers in contract performance and payment claims. His work in real estate includes litigating and resolving a wide range of disputes concerning the ownership and use of land. He also advises individuals and businesses in real estate transactions, including acquisitions and sales, leasing and finance. Tom has conducted numerous trials in state and federal courts as well as private mediations and arbitrations.

Tom is also committed to improving diversity in the workplace. As a member of the firm’s Diversity Committee, he is proud be involved with the Oregon State Bar’s Opportunities for Law in Oregon program. Tom has also helped coach mock trial teams at Roosevelt High School in Portland.
