Making the Right Insurance Decision for Your Real Estate Investment

Every property and every transaction involves some sort of insurance and insurance coverage can often be that one piece of information that you rely on your broker to figure out. The problem is that unless you have some grasp of the coverages, you stand to potentially experience a gap in coverage, inadequate coverage or you end up self-insuring what you thought was insured when you do have a loss.

Ken Leatherman and Cliff Hockley will be going through the coverages you should have and questions you should be asking when it comes to both your clients and your own coverages.

Ken Leatherman:
Ken specializes in employee benefits and property-casualty coverage for senior care businesses. He analyzes employee benefit programs and uses that data to develop integrated and customized solutions to help manage costs and employee retention.

Cliff Hockley:

Cliff is a Certified Property Manager® (CPM) and a Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM). Cliff joined the company in 1986 and has extensive experience representing owners of commercial, investment and residential properties. He has managed warehouse, office, and retail properties, as well as mobile home parks, condominium associations, and residential properties of all sizes. Cliff’s client base includes financial institutions, government agencies, private investors and nonprofit organizations. In addition to property management, he has served as an advisor, developed budgets, made value improvements to buildings, and trained on- and off-site staff. Cliff holds an MBA from Willamette University and a BS in Political Science from Claremont McKenna College. He is a frequent contributor to industry newsletters and serves as adjunct professor at Portland State University, where he teaches real estate finance. Cliff is the author of 21 Fables, a book about real estate investing that helps investors navigate the rough shoals of real estate ownership.
