Join us as Greg Specht, CEO of Specht Properties, long time property owner and developer in the Portland area, talks about their recent developments throughout Oregon and our community. Greg will also share war stories, which there are many, and his view of the future real estate market.

Specht_Web-21.jpgGreg Specht’s entire professional career has been in real estate development and construction. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in finance, in 1973. His early real estate projects included development of single and multifamily dwellings, subdivision development, various federally funded housing programs, and low and moderate income rehabilitation projects in the core area of downtown Portland, Oregon.

In 1986, Greg joined Scherzer-Moore Partners as Vice President of Acquisition and Development. As the firm grew, he was promoted to Senior Vice President and in 1988 to President of Scherzer Partners, Inc. In 1990, Greg resigned from Scherzer to form Specht Properties and Specht Development. At that time, Specht became the general partner of three industrial and office projects developed in partnership with the National Electrical Benefit Fund, based in Washington, D.C. As a commercial developer, he has been responsible for developing or providing project and construction management on over 10 million square feet of commercial and industrial real estate in Oregon and Washington, with a cost basis of over $900 million.

For years Greg has served on many civic, religious, and non-profit advisory boards and committees as a community volunteer. His professional activities in support of real estate include being a long time member of the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties (NAIOP), where he served as President of the Oregon Chapter in 1993. He was elected to the National Board of Directors for a three year term beginning in 1996, and was re-elected for a second term in 1999. He served on the Executive Committee of the National Board in 1997 and was National Chair of the NAIOP Forums in 1998. He has also served on the Board of Directors of the Home Builders Association of Portland (1994) as well as on the Board of Innovative Housing, Inc., a non-profit affordable housing provider in Portland (1988-97). He currently serves on the Advisory Board for the Center for Real Estate at Portland State University.
