Third Quarter 2018
President’s Message

As we approach the second half of the year I am pleased to share with you all the exciting accomplishments that the Ohio CCIM has achieved so far this year. To date, we have had 10 programs this year in Ohio alone, including CCIM CE courses, CCIM Core classes and a variety of networking and “Lunch with a Legend” programs. We currently have more than 170 members in the Ohio Chapter and continue to grow! The Region 7 Midwest Conference was graciously hosted by the Michigan Chapter, and was a huge success. Their chapter did an outstanding job and I’m sure this will become an annual event.

Keep your eyes out for upcoming courses this year, including CI 102: Market Analysis for Commercial Investment Real Estate, hosted by our neighbors in Indiana, and CE classes in Cincinnati and Columbus discussing Commercial Real Estate Auctions, led by one of our own, Barry Baker, CCIM. And don’t forget to sign up for the July 17th event in Toledo. This will be an exciting program with Legend Bruce Gradkowki, hosted by Rudolph Libbe Group, with a Toledo Mud Hens game to follow (exclusive rooftop seating).

I want to take a moment to remind all of our members that all CCIM Institute members gain a competitive advantage with access to industry-leading tools and exclusive discounts. STDB is at your fingertips, there are tuition discounts on CCIM Institute courses, you have the ability to share exclusive property “haves and wants” directly with other CCIM members via DealShare, and of course you can enjoy the award-winning magazine of the Institute. If you are pressed for time, the Ward Center continues to have a great lineup of courses, most of which are available in an online format - go to www.ccim.com/education/ward-center for the latest offerings.

As always, I would like to extend a personal invitation if you are interested in getting more involved.

Call me anytime, (614) 203-8188 or email me to discuss.

Sincerely,

Cooperative Business Services, LLC
2018 Ohio CCIM Chapter President.
Tech Corner
There are a variety of benefits that members of the institute receive just for paying their annual dues. And one of the coolest, and most under-utilized, is a software platform called RealNex. This company provides cloud-based real estate solutions via a suite of products covering property listings, leasing/tenant rep, proposal/flyer/website creation, email marketing campaigns and a CRM custom tailored for the commercial real estate professional. But the star of the show is a powerful discounted cash flow analysis tool. And guess what? It’s free for members! If you are tired of building your own Excel workbooks to analyze properties and you don’t feel like spending several thousand dollars to maintain an Argus license, do yourself a huge favor and check RealNex out! .
Recent Events
For the 7th straight year, the Ohio CCIM Chapter hosted a day trip to Keeneland Race Track in Lexington, KY. On April 19, attendees met up with members from the Kentucky and Indiana chapters and enjoyed a day of wagering and socializing. If you haven’t yet attended this great event, make sure to keep an eye out next year! Thanks once again to Shad Phipps, CCIM; herder of cats since 2010, for organizing this event.
On Tuesday, April 24, the Ohio CCIM Chapter participated in Bisnow’s Cincinnati Industrial Boom symposium. Attendees heard market experts, including a panel moderated by our own John Rickert, CCIM, discuss topics such as how national and international trends are re-shaping the industrial supply chain, innovative ways to source new development and what the future may hold for this red-hot sector.
On May 9th, the Ohio CCIM Chapter sponsored a focused commercial CE session in Columbus featuring Mike Sikora. Entitled ‘Hottest Legal Issues Affecting Commercial Brokers and Agents”, attendees learned about the latest legal developments, including what to do and what to avoid in a commercial real estate transaction. Thanks to the Sikora Law Firm/Omni Title for hosting this event!!
The city of Detroit hosted a regional CCIM meeting June 14 and 15. Attendees, which included CCIM candidate and designees from Ohio, Michigan, Kentucky, Illinois and Indiana, were treated to a fantastic program that featured downtown tours led by Bedrock real estate executives, speakers that included the Senior Advisor to Michigan Governor, a workshop highlighting CCIM concepts on risk analysis, a happy hour hosted by WeWork and a great early evening boat cruise on the Detroit River. If you missed this event, be sure to keep an eye out in 2019! Thanks to the Michigan Chapter for hosting a terrific program!
On June 27, the Ohio CCIM Chapter once again sponsored a focused commercial CE session featuring Mike Sikora, this time in Toledo. Entitled ‘Hottest Legal Issues Affecting Commercial Brokers and Agents”, Thanks to the Toledo Regional Association of REALTORS for co-sponsoring this event and to the Toledo Club for hosting!
