He was born in Chicago, IL on February 6, 1939 to the late John Thomas Crone Jr. MD and Sarai Thomas Crone. As an eagle scout, John graduated from Walnut Hills High School in Magnolia ARK, and continued to Washington and Lee University in Lexington VA, to receive his degree in physics. After graduation, he traveled extensively in Europe and studied electrical engineering at Edinburgh University in Scotland. John was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by the love of his life, Joy, his son, John Thomas Crone IV and wife Tanya Melich, his daughter Jennifer Crone, and his sister Katherine Crone. He is also survived by his grandchildren Daisy, Henry and Lucy Crone and step children Lexie and her husband Bruce Thomas, Gabriela and her husband Travis Bound, Cristan, Jaime, and five step grandchildren.

Throughout his life, with endless curiosity, John traveled the world: Peru, Israel, and The Balkins, to name the most recent. John lived in Germany and the Bahamas before settling in Dallas. He worked on special projects for Lomas & Nettleton and Trammell Crow investigating the feasibility of mortgage banking in Europe. Since moving to San Antonio in 1983, John has been heavily involved in the Real Estate community. He headed Ray Ellison's Commercial Division for many years before starting his own brokerage firm, CROLANCO, which is still operating today. John remained active on the Boards of the following organizations: San Antonio Board of Realtors, Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM), Realtors Commercial Alliance (RCA), South Texas Commercial Realtors Alliance (serving as president for the local CCIM and RCA chapters), and The Lighthouse for the Blind. John was also a member of a host of other Commercial Real Estate organizations and groups, in which he was always active and vocal, promoting their causes either through participating in, chairing committees or general membership. Although interested in many areas of these various organizations, John's particular interest was in Governmental and Legislative affairs relating to Real Estate, where he was always looked to and highly respected for his knowledge and expertise. In addition, John remained loyal and involved to his men's Selah group for the past 25 years.
